At this moment, K5 Oilcentre provides bottled water to several oil platforms. With the new drinking water unit it is possible to produce 4000 liters water per hour. The water will be stored in a 100m3 container from which a tanker will be filled. Subsequently the tanker brings the drinking water to the supply ships in the port, which in turn, supply the water to several platforms.. The drinking water installation is constructed in such a way that in the future it will be possible to increase the production capacity to 8000 liter per hour. Because of the tropical climate and limited opportunities for maintenance and repair, the entire installation is built durably. The essential components, such as pumps, are doubled for 100% back up. The whole installation, including the source pump, is controlled automatically from the PLC control panel. The dosage of chlorine for disinfection and a flocculent for removal of pollution, will constantly be adjusted depending on the various measurements in the process. The installation is built into a 14 meter long, isolated, and climate controlled container. The filter in the drinking water installation consists of a sand filter and an active carbon filter. Every 24 hours, or when the pressure difference is too high, a back flush will be initiated, so the filters will be cleaned. This all happens automatically. For the installation in Malabo, and for the start up and training of local people, the Twin Filter project engineer (Bart Hartog) will go to Malabo for one week. Besides drinking water systems for fresh water, Twin Filter provides systems for making drinking water from seawater, based on ‘reverse osmosis’. All systems are designed and built by Twin Filter.
